Music: Brown Eyed Girls- Kill Bill MV

Ohhh boy oh boy, BEG has yet to let me down. You can take the time to watch the full MV now if you haven't yet.

It's a full storydriven MV that goes beyond standard dance-in-a-box design, so let's walk through what I gathered from the story. First of all, this MV is obviously inspired by Kill Bill, but takes some creative liberty and changes some things. Let's think of it as a new version of Kill Bill, an Alternate Universe, whatever you prefer. Respecting that it's different, let's try to forget about what we may know about Kill Bill and look at things freshly.

Before the song starts we get a bit of a prologue that starts with Narsha painting Hangul on a man's back.

She paints the Hangul for "Bill," So we can assume this is Bill

We don't know the kind of relationship she has with him, and you could argue she is his girlfriend or something, but it doesn't matter, we're able to understand from this that they're friendly. The camera moves to reveal what's under the bed, and we find JeA, hiding, and holding a jar with a spider inside. We know the spider is poisonous because of what happens later, and with her opening the jar to set the spider free on the bed, we can understand that JeA's character wants Bill dead.

Before anything happens with the spider, though, Ga In's character emerges onto the scene with a gun pointed at Bill, and kinda blasts him into next week.

The music hasn't even started yet, and Bill is dead?

Some debris from firing at the bed injures JeA's eye, and in retaliation, Narsha's character throws some kind of sharp hairpin at Ga In. It penetrates her skull and Ga In collapses. Once this happens, Miryo's character fires her shotgun at the door, hitting Narsha. Miryo steps onto the scene looking victorious, until we see the spider again. Miryo collapses onto the floor along with all of the other girls.

So far, it seems as if every one of the girls (except for Narsha) had their own plans of killing Bill. Well, Bill's dead now, so doesn't that mean the MV is over? No, the music hasn't even started yet. We get a "Four years later..." message, and we find JeA wearing an eyepatch, walking through a hospital.

The tune she's whistling is also pretty sweet.

She steps into a room and we can see Ga In is unconscious in the room just across the hall. Based on how JeA turns her head to look right at that room, we can understand that JeA knows this. Finally, the music starts, and it seems that JeA is very upset (Losing her eye, having Ga In be the one to kill Bill) and plans to kill Ga In with a syringe while she's still comatose.

Ga In wakes up at the last second and sits up suddenly, pushing JeA away. In some struggle, it seems JeA is stabbed by the syringe and Ga In escapes the hospital.

Meanwhile, we see Miryo tied up in a coffin and Narsha rather triumphantly looming over her. The coffin is closed (while Miryo yells and squirms in resistance) so we can assume JeA isn't the only one who was upset over the gunfire 4 years earlier. After this, we see JeA sitting in the corner of a room, it seems the syringe didn't kill her. She looks pretty angry, though.

And that eye doesn't look very BROWN, my dude

We get to see Narsha again afterward, sitting alone in a trailer, only to have Ga In crash the party again. Why would she want to kill Narsha? I can think of a couple of reasons. Narsha put her in that four year coma. Narsha was also obviously allied with Bill. Regardless of the reason, we're treated to some surprisingly decent fight choreography.

During the struggle, we see JeA being sneaky again. It seems like JeA and Ga In keep picking the same day to try to kill the same person off. We also see Miryo's hand emerge from the ground elsewhere- burying her alive wasn't quite good enough, Narsha.

She didn't even break a nail

Miryo wastes no time in shooting down the door to Narsha's trailer, shooting down Narsha in the process, and looks rather proud of herself as she stands over Narsha's body. Ga In isn't impressed and, when she sees the gun, throws a knife to put Miryo down as well. It seems Ga In collapses afterward, and JeA drops down from the cieling to check all the people out... Only to have Narsha shoot her cord down.

They didn't learn their lesson the first time I guess.

The video ends there.

~The members~

JeA, "Bloody Blue Spider"
Her role here was actually rather funny, especially with how she dropped down from the ceiling at the very end. She failed at everything she did. Her counterpart in the film seems to be Elle Driver, played by Daryl Hannah, though their similarities are rather few (The syringe scene, the eyepatch)

Miryo, "Guns N' Roses"
What a codename. Apparently Miryo isn't satisfied with Johoney for this video. Miryo's role was gritty and strong, and she pulled it off rather well, being the best option out of the group for such a role. Her character is largely original, but I want to say that her film counterpart is Budd, played by Michael Madsen.

Narsha, "S-A-K-U-R-A"
I liked Narsha's character quite a bit! At first I may want to compare her to O-Ren Ishii from the film (played by Lucy Liu), but I feel more strongly that Narsha's character was entirely original. She was needed, as well. She was a part of Bill that was still alive after he died, a bit of a loose end that Ga In needed to clean up after waking from her coma. My personal favorite role in this MV.

Ga In, "Mack the Knife"
Okay first of all, Mack the Knife? I'll try to ignore how difficult it is to see Ga In as "Mack." Obviously, this role was most important, and was played by Uma Thurman in the film. Ga In's acting was good in this MV, and I'm not disappointed in her performance at all... I'm just a little disappointed in her dum codename.

~Overview~

I liked this story, even though it had basically been told before. They took enough creative liberty to make the concept fresh again. The song was exceptional and while many say that Recipe was better, that doesn't mean it would have made the better MV. Understand that even if a song is exceptional, it may not be right for a video. I love Recipe, and I'm happy that BEG performed both songs at Inkigayo.

See it here if you want

I won't praise them forever though. There were some minor problems. It would have been nice if Miryo wasn't spotlessly clean after crawling out of the ground. The motivation of the girls in the story could have been explained a bit better in the prologue. We see Ga In is still in her wedding gown, so why did she want to kill Bill? It rules out the explanation in the film, so it leaves me wondering.

About the song, a part of me is a little disappointed that their vocal talents weren't shown off a little more like they were in Sixth Sense. This group is seriously full of talent and it's always a treat to see them show that off, but we didn't get to really see that in Kill Bill or in Recipe. That aside, the song is still exceptional. Miryo's rap stands out especially to me, and she's always been impressive.

I give Brown Eyed Girls' Kill Bill...

  1. Hello! I know I'm late commenting, but I have a really good explanation! I myself haven't seen Kill Bill the real movie, but I've watched this and garnered different details every time I watch it. Narsha is a prostitute, first off. I'm not sure if I can explain JeA (maybe a former lover?), but I can explain the wedding dress thing, too! I think Ga-in was going to marry Bill on that day. Instead he doesn't show up after the night with Narsha and finds them there. Apparently she has a gun with her and in a moment of hurt and spite she shoots him, still in the wedding dress for the wedding he never arrived to. Narsha seemed to fall in love with Bill or have romantic feelings for him and killed her in repentance. HERE'S WHAT I FIGURED OUT: Miryo is the hotel manager! The hotel is a place where men go for prostitution, I think, and when she heard Ga-in's gunfire she thought trouble was brewing and went to shoot who she assumed was Bill causing trouble for one of her ladies (Narsha). It's sort of a stretch, but Miryo has a hotel nametag on and dons professional clothing (black heels, pencil skirt). The rest sort of falls into place :D Narsha wants to kill Bill's mistress and JeA wants to kill Narsha for hurting her eye and ruining her original plan to poison and kill bill slowly.

    1. I don't see Narsha as being a prostitute, but being a secret girlfriend on the side as he stands Ga In up at the altar is a very good explanation.

I *don't* think that Miryo and Narsha were otherwise unrelated to Ga In and JeA though, since we see the photo of them all together at one point, it looks like they all used to be friends or work together. This was the case in the film, too: All of them used to work with eachother, with Bill at the top. Miryo wearing a name tag and the outfit would make sense, but she has to be more than just that, since we see all four of the girls in that photo just before the music starts.
